Rachel and Sam wed at the beautiful Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton’s River Valley, on a warm summer’s day, where they held both their ceremony and reception.
Their photographer, the wonderful Jennie of Jennie May Photo, had chosen the lovely Government House grounds and Kinsmen Park for their photo portrait session, where we got some truly stunning footage.

The Setting: A Beautiful Summer’s Day in Edmonton
It was the perfect weather for a wedding. Not a cloudless sky, but not a grey day either. The ideal light for filmmakers and photographers is soft and diffused, so there are no strong shadows cast on people’s faces and no blinding sun so people are squinting, too! As the day progressed, we had more overcast skies, which we more than happy to work with. By the time of the reception, the sun was barely breaking through the clouds. It had been spectacular day for their wedding images, soft and ethereal, as is their love.

Pre-Ceremony Preparations
I filmed Rachel and her bridesmaids while my second shooter filmed Sam and his groomsmen, as everyone was getting ready for the big day ahead. Needless to say, emotions were high and there was a quiet excitement in the air. Rachel got emotional when she read the letter Sam wrote for her, and upon opening her gift from him she realized they had got each other the same thing. It was a very touching moment.

Rachel and Sam chose a gorgeous venue to match the elegant aesthetic of the wedding. The Royal Glenora is located in the heart of Edmonton’s River Valley and has many large windows that let in plentiful natural light – always something we are grateful for.

Rachel told me the style of the wedding was modern, timeless and elegant. To capture that aesthetic, she chose a gorgeous dress from Ainas Anette, which I would describe as perfection. The simplicity of the dress perfectly matched the understated elegance of the entire event and made her look truly regal.

Candid Moments: Laughter, Tears and Dancing
We really do love when couples have the opportunity to write and exchange their own personal vows on a wedding day. This doesn’t have to take place during the ceremony itself, as some ceremonies are quite strict about what can be spoken between the couple, but it is worth finding a few quiet moments for this intimate proclamation.
Throughout the day, we discreetly captured candid moments; laughter between friends and the tender embraces shared between family members. These moments are some of our favourite to sprinkle throughout the wedding film.

The reception started with the couple’s grand entrance and an emotional first dance of the bride and groom!
